Matthew Kesinger Obituary

A funeral service will be held Sunday March 3rd at 3pm at A. Frank Smith GMC in Alto, Tx. No visitation is scheduled.

Matthew Edward Kesinger was born on February 26, 1983.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Kesinger, and both his maternal and paternal grandparents: Opal & Harmon West, Travis Brooks, and Hazel Kesinger.

He is survived by his parents, Carolyn & Milo Reina, his children, Mia & Aaden Kesinger,  his sister and brother-in-law, Samantha and Scott Mullens, and his nephew, Carson Mullens. Also, his half sisters, Courtney Peacock and family, and Taylor McFarland and family. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Dianne and Gerald West & Karen and Bo Kesinger, many cousins and a host of friends.

Following high school, Matt served in the Marine Corps. Afterwards he spent the majority of his short adult life working in the oil industry.  It didn’t matter the endeavor, what Matt really enjoyed was life. He went “all in” whether it was a family beach trip, cooking for the family, clearing land and building fence, volunteering at the church, or on his job. He was truly bigger than life, and used up most of the oxygen in a room.  If he was going to do it, he was going to do it Big.

Matt never met a stranger, and always had a smile for everyone he met.  He was the family “Entertainment Director”. If we were in a RV campsite, he soon had every child camping there organized and playing some type of group game in the center area. At our home, if it was warm weather he came equipped with water balloons. If it was cool weather, he brought nerf guns of all sizes. We then were allowed to choose our weapon, given the rules, and a nerf gun war was on. We never knew if we were going to be engaged in freeze tag, a soccer game, volleyball game, kickball, or baseball, but we knew that there was a plan and he was bringing the stuff.

Matt was the most generous person we’ve ever known. We first realized this when he was an elementary student. He would go to school in the latest trendy shirt we had purchased for him, and he would come home wearing someone’s t-shirt because they “really liked his shirt”. So naturally, he gave it to them. This practice continued throughout his life. He gave of his possessions, funds, talents and time without hesitation to anyone in need.

Matt loved God, knew His word, and leaned into Him for strength.  That strength has carried him and our family through our most difficult days…his battle with cancer.

Matt was ready and went to his heavenly home on February 29th, 2024.

He has left a space that cannot ever be filled.  We only had him 41 short years, but my…how he did live.

We love him with all of our hearts, and look forward to the day we’re all together again and our family is whole once more.

God’s speed, Matt. Our hearts go with you.
