Lela Clemons was born in Sacul, TX to Charlie and Evie Brooks on April 28, 1921. She went to school in Sacul, TX. She married Arthur William Clemons on November 28, 1940 in Sacul, TX. Lela was a devoted homemaker, gardener, wife and mother from the time she got married. Shortly after marrying, she and Arthur moved to California where they both worked in an airplane factory at the start of World War II. Upon Arthur’s enlistment in the United States Army, they soon moved back to Sacul, TX where Lela gave birth to their only son, Arthur Joe Clemons.
Lela was an avid gardener, growing gardens that always yielded a bountiful harvest. She truly had a “green thumb” and could grow anything from seed or sprout. Her flower gardens and blooming bushes were admired by all who came to her house. Outside in the garden or fishing and hunting were where she was happiest and spent most of her time. She was also a skilled seamstress creating many beautiful quilts and works of needle point. She loved entertaining her 2 grand-daughters, who were her pride and joy in life, whenever they came to visit. Lela was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cushing and was always happy to host and serve others in her home. In her later years, Lela still enjoyed time in her gardens but also became a devoted great-grandmother to 3 wonderful great-grandchildren. Lela had many close friends and family and she truly enjoyed spending time with them and talking to them as much as possible. She didn’t meet a stranger and loved others. Up until a few months before her death, she was happiest going to the “Boats” with her 2 best friends! Lela lived life to the fullest and truly blessed all those who knew her.
Lela is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Evie Brooks and her husband Arthur William Clemons. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Trixie Heath, Lola Armstrong, and Wonice Paden and brothers J.W Brooks and George (Tuff) Brooks. Her granddaughter Megan Jo Clemons and daughter- in- law Delores Clemons. Lela is survived by her son Arthur Joe Clemons of Cushing. Granddaughters Shonda Dwyer and husband Daaron of Cushing and Amy Reeves and husband Chad of Cushing. Great- Grand Children Walker Reeves, Sydney Dwyer, and Tessa Reeves. Many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Daaron Dwyer, Chad Reeves, Walker Reeves, Butch Heath, Dwaine Neff, Derek Neff, Toby Self, and George Lloyd. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Sides, Lynn Moore, and Ollis Walker.
